Interval House Ottawa

10 Units

Interval House of Ottawa (IHO) is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting women and children fleeing domestic and gender-based violence. To expand its capacity and improve pathways to safety, IHO set out to build a new 10-unit transitional housing project that provides stable, supportive, and dignified homes for residents rebuilding their lives. This project is part of a broader strategy to address the acute shortage of transitional housing in the region and to strengthen wraparound services for families experiencing crisis.

2B was engaged to support both the project’s early development needs and the capital funding for the project to proceed to construction. Our team worked with IHO to review the project in detail and to assist with a construction strategy that would make the project competitive for funding from the City of Ottawa.  In 2024, the project was awarded funding through the Housing Accelerator Fund with the City of Ottawa, which provided almost 100% grant financing. Our team also assisted with the successful funding application to CMHC’s Affordable Housing Funding - Rapid Housing Stream to secure additional capital to close the gap in project costs. Our team serves as the project manager for IHO and is leading the project through construction alongside the entire construction management team, project consultants, and architectural teams.

The project had to overcome the inherent hurdle of obtaining capital funding in the form of a full contribution grant to reduce the operating costs of the housing once completed. 2B was able to secure two sources of funding for the project that enabled almost 100% financing as a contribution grant. As a result, IHO can provide housing at deeply affordable rates, which allows for residents to find financial stability and safety all at once.

Our role on this project has extended beyond our position as project managers; we have made a commitment to working with IHO and their fundraising committee to work hand-and-hand on their fundraising events. Our team dedicated our communications coordinator to their Cool Cat Cabaret fundraiser providing resources, capacity, and time to help make the evening's event a success - which ultimately raised $234,000.  Our team continued to provide support to IHO through many different means such as our gift drive, race events, and more.
